General Help
Please read the legal information under the about menu link. If you have specific questions please feel free to drop me an email.
Member Accounts
You can have as many member accounts on Macjams.net as you wish however most people will need only one. You must have a member account to do anything on this site like posting media, commenting or interacting with other members.
Member accounts must have valid email addresses at a bare minimum.
Member accounts have basically three levels:
- Member - This is the basic level. At this level you can have a limited number of active postings. The reason for this limit is simply due to cost of running the site.
- Member - Supporter. This level is attained if you donate to this site. Currently there is no donate button on the site but that will be resolved soon. If you wish to donate and regular donations are greatly appreciated please contact me directly. There is an email link at the bottom of this page.
- Admin - Currently I am the only admin but if the site begins to get some activity I would welcome some help. Contact me if interested. There is an email link at the bottom of this page.
Posting
The primary reason for this site is to allow us creative people to post and share our works. Eventually this site will support video, artwork, poetry and more. But for now it is mostly just music.
As described above, as a regular member you can post a limited number of items. Currently the number is set to 10. If you want to post more please consider a donation to the site.
The about link in the menu covers legal information on postings. Please make sure you read it and understand it. In simple terms:
Macjams.net will not censor or prohibit you from posting just about anything you want unless it becomes a problem.
Examples of problems with a post might be: It slanders others or members, it is extremely offensive, it infringes on a copyright and this site has been asked to remove the post.
Beethoven once said that music should strike fire in the heart of man and bring a tear to the eye of woman. That might be slightly paraphrased but the message is true. Music should do good things. It should not tear down and offend. So if your post follows this general guideline then it should be good to go.
As always, Macjams.net reserves the right to remove with out notice any media post, forum post or member account that the site feels is in violation of general good taste or is becoming an issue.
Posts on Macjams.net can have multiple versions. In the main media listing page you play only the latest version. However, if you drill down to the media page itself, where all the detail is shown you can play prior versions of a song.
You can support other members and other members can support you by liking your post.On the main media page, once logged in there is a like button. Press it to show your support for the post.
In addition to likes, you can comment on media posts. Adding a comment is a simple way to discuss the post with the author and with others.
Member-to-Member Messages
Macjams.net supports a member-to-member message system much like MacJams.com did however this system offers one advantage:
File transfer
The idea is to help with transferring collorative files back and forth. Back in the days of MacJams.com this always needed to be done offline using email and email was not great about sending larger files.
The file transfer system in Macjams.net using member-to-member messages should support sending files as large as 40 megabytes. To conserve on disk space the system requires that you zip your files and the system will forcefully without notice remove messages and their files after 60 days.
So the member-to-member system is designed to help you colloborate and communicate with other members. It is not a replacement for email or social media.
Forums
Macjams.net supports a simple set of forums. Forums are place where you can simply discuss and interact with other members on various topics.
Forums are divided in to sections. Try to post in the most appropriate section for what you want to discuss. Posting for help with a DAW in the section Soapbox doesn't make much sense so try to focus your posts in the correct section. If you make a mistake, let me know and I can move the forum post for you to a better section.
In a section you will see a list of topics. A topic is a thread or a discussion about that topic. Topics will be ordered in the forum section with the most recent topic at the top.
When you click into a topic the earliest or first post in the topic will be at the top. Reading down will show you the conversation history from earliest comment to latest at the bottom.
As mentioned in numerous places, keep things respectful and courteous. Members that slander, insult or cause other issues in forum posts will have their posts removed and may be banned from the site.
