Tall Grass and Flowers
Quick Summary:
This is a song for my grandparents
Media Description:
This is a song for my grandparents, dead now for over 60 years. My father's parents. I never really got to know them. They were farmers. All of their children are gone, one being my father and we have lost three of their children, one being my sister, Kathy. All of the living cousins got together last summer and it started this process of reflection. Two of my cousins had a lot of pictures I had never seen. I used some to make the video. So maybe it is for all of us...

Sometimes I imagine
I take a long train ride
Heading to a country church
With a graveyard beside.
I'm looking through the tall grass
For stones of my own.
I see my father taking off his hat
Heâs standing there all alone.
We came on the train from nowhere
No past to leave behind.
We slept with our clothes on,
We slept with our clothes on
And drank in the summer rain.
I didnât know my grandparents,
Didnât ride in their car,
Didnât sit on their knee.
I wonder where they came fromÂ
What brought them to their destiny.
I want to know
Some things that just canât be known.
My crystal ball was broken.
No starry sky,
Just flesh and bone.
We came on the train from nowhere
No past to leave behind,
We slept with our clothes on,
Yea we slept with our clothes on
And drank in the summer rain.
Sometimes I imagine
It all goes well,
Sometimes imagine
I've got nothing to tell.
Im standing in the middle of a graveyard
I hear you call my name.
There's a road along a river,
And I know that road like the back of my hand,
And the river running through me,
Making its way to the promised land.
We came on the train from nowhere
No past to leave behind,
We slept with our clothes on,
Yea we slept with our clothes on
And drank in the summer rain.
