Quick Summary:

My third song for the RPM 2022 Challenge

Media Description:

This is the third of four songs I did for this year's RPM Challenge.

I've realized static comes up a lot in my lyrics and I've never really thought about it until now. I guess I see static as kind of a finality. In my childhood static on the television meant the broadcasting day was done and it was time for bed (actually way past time, except for Friday nights). Music came with copious amounts of static when you tried to pick up any radio station in rural Mississippi, much less one that played something besides country or gospel. Later, static came to represent fear - televisions and radio transmission cut off by the inevitable nuclear holocaust we expected at anytime while I was growing up. In later years, static became a more metaphoric concept, especially where relationships were concerned.

This song is probably about all three because the overarching idea of static is that of a sense of loneliness. A late, sleepless night brings back memories from nights after the National Anthem had played and the test pattern faded away. Or existential fear of either not waking up the next morning or waking up in a doomed and destroyed world. Or a fear of waking up alone after a parade of too many years to count.

Wow. A little bit darker than I thought... But, that's about par for the course for me. Still, hope after reading this you still enjoy the tune. :)
